Theme: Self-titled
Self-titled is an exploration project for the students to express their own individuality and reflect their personality into digital art self-expression. The main idea is to build up self-confidence and discover their interest.

Part 1: Idea Development (Week 10)
1. Write a biography about yourself.

Intro: My name is Xenyi, a first year in Bachelor of Design in Creative Media. I am more shy and reserved at first, but once let loose, I can be quite the chaotic chatterbox, always up for something fun and new (if I’m not weighed down by tiredness). I love to immerse myself into a different world than reality, whether it is reading, watching a series or playing video games, I always like getting attached to different stories and characters.

Paragraph 1: What is your passion?
I love creating or consuming stories, as each story has an impact that I hold value to, whether it be a deep delve into a different perspective of someone going through an issue, or a comforting story between found-family. Outside of me being inside another world, I love helping others out just to see them smile.

Paragraph 2: What’s motivate you to achieve your dream?
The freedom to live life to the fullest: creating meaningful memories with others, dreaming and creating endless stories about what could be, and doing small things here and there to bring a tiny spark to people’s lives.

Summary: How do you want to visualize your dream into an artwork?
Since I am a dreamer and love fantasy genres, I like to visualise a futuristic fantasy where steampunk is mixed with a little of medieval fantasy magic, where the artwork will portray a hopeful, dreamy feeling. With the mix of technology and nature, I want to show how these two can mix together in harmony, demonstrating that I can have the freedom to explore all of these things in different possible alternate realities.

2. Write a statement about your work.

Intro: I want to create a dream fantasy, where magic ties technology and nature together, mixing this modern world with the steampunk genre.

Paragraph 1: What is the concept behind it?

The theme I picked was about the beauty of hometown, and I wanted to create a feeling of magic of what I think what home feels like. It’s a place where I feel safe to dream and inspire, where technology and nature can live together without either destroying each other. I added steampunk-style technology, along with sea creatures flying in the air. With an open space of the sky and beach as the background, along with a faded effect of the galaxy and stars, I wanted to create a wide space to feel the freedom of dreaming, with a touch of fantasy. The tear into my head is a metaphor of looking deeper of what my dream home is like: a warm, homely cottage.

Paragraph 2: What is the message you want people to understand it?
That dreams shouldn’t be contained and locked away, but to dive in and explore, letting ideals and fantasy create a beautiful world of its own. I want the artwork to visualise the feeling of hope and a place of comfort, to be inspired to keep dreaming even if others bring them down, that magic and fantasy isn’t something to be afraid of or scorned at, as it could be someone else’s place of home.

Summary: What is your motto/quote?
“Dream on” inspired by the song from Aerosmith. I heard it recently, and thinks it fits the theme perfectly (to dream until it happens). Additionally, it ties to two other things I love: memes and Narancia (from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure).

3. Study and gather all related information about your topic.

For this animation, I tried to make this dream world come alive - the sea creatures travelling, the vehicles flying, and the background moving along as if on a journey. I tried to make it seem like this was captured in a special moment, the memory being important and remembered but for a moment.

I compiled every Digital Photography and Imaging Project and Week E-portfolio into Week 14, for an easier and more organised access to all my work for this module.
