Final Poster
Title: If Only I Could Dream For A Moment

Artist Statement:
The theme I picked was about the beauty of hometown, and I wanted to create a feeling of magic of what I think what home feels like. It’s a place where I feel safe to dream and inspire, where technology and nature can live together without either destroying each other. I added steampunk-style technology, along with sea creatures flying in the air. With an open space of the sky and beach as the background, along with a faded effect of the galaxy and stars, I wanted to create a wide space to feel the freedom of dreaming, with a touch of fantasy. The tear into my head is a metaphor of looking deeper of what my dream home is like: a warm, homely cottage.

The message is that That dreams shouldn’t be contained and locked away, but to dive in and explore, letting ideals and fantasy create a beautiful world of its own. I want the artwork to visualise the feeling of hope and a place of comfort, to be inspired to keep dreaming even if others bring them down, that magic and fantasy isn’t something to be afraid of or scorned at, as it could be someone else’s place of home.

Using the poster from the previous project, I begun animating this poster. Mr. Fauzi provided a tutorial video on how to use Photoshop Timeline to animate. Since I used Adobe Effects for another module (Illustration and Visual Narrative), so I want to try using Photoshop as a different medium. Further more, since I have the layers separated, and with too many layers to add in Adobe Effects, it is easier and better to use Photoshop instead.

I started with the vertical poster first. I decided to make the sea creatures and vehicles come alive by making them move across the poster. I then made the clouds move too above the city. I animated the sun and moon to turn too, suggesting the switch in day and night. I also gave a small animation to the plants and city, just to make them seem alive. The blended stars on the face is animated to move. Lastly, I made the background move from left to right, to show this story as going on a journey. The only thing I didn't animate was the person, who stays grounded in place at the centre. I used the position tool to move the elements, in addition to playing around with the zoom and rotate options.
