Lecture 1
Week 1 - Introduction to Digital Photography and Imaging
The Importance of Learning Photoshop:
1. Express your Creativity
2. Create Graphic Design
3. Restoration of Old Images
4. Integrate Graphics with Text Artistically
5. Make Use of Brushes
6. Change Photo Colour
7. Rectify Mistakes in Photographs
Digital Imaging - it converts the printed text, artwork, and photography into digital images using a digital scanner or another imaging device.
Techniques:
- Removing details ("retouching") - to improve appearance (remove wrinkles, slim down) or remove distracting or unwanted elements
- Inserting details - change facial features, add colour to skin, add elements to a scene in order to change the tone of a photograph
- Photomontage - to pair images to suggest a relationship or create an entirely new image with a composite meaning
- False captioning - context of what a photograph purportedly portrays is falsified to distort the meaning

We started by creating our E-Portfolio and a Pinterest Board named 'DPI'.
I had to list 3 of my favourite graphic design work from Pinterest and explain why. These are my designs chosen.
Design #1
Description:
The first words that comes to my mind is “beautifully broken”. The design portrays a person being broken by decay in a very delicate and graceful manner, as the soft colours used attracted my eye. I love art that have meanings, with a darker portrayal of aesthetics in a beautiful way.
Design #2
Description:
I have not yet read this novel (Lord of Mysteries), but I love this genre of steampunk, Victorian fantasy, which this design portrays beautifully. I love the colours used: gold, blue and white work really well together. The elements of the gears, clockwork, the ink and feather used, and the old-fashioned cane with suits worn by the gentlemen are aesthetics I typically love in designs and stories.
Design #3
Description:
I also love character designs like these: majestic, elegant and yet there is something disturbing or eerie in a way that makes me go in awe, like any fantasy creatures or celestial beings. Half of her face is hidden away, while her head has a halo. Her armour design is amazing, showing a sort of beauty in chivalry and elegance at the same time. Additionally, I chose this because I love medieval fantasy designs and aesthetics.
